Our Summer

Sorry about the lack of posts lately (I don’t know if anyone but my mom really notices though…thanks for reading Mom!). We have been busy, busy, busy! We’ve spent time bowling, playing with bugs, swinging, watching baseball games, playing water balloons….

By the way, did you know that when chalk gets wet it’s like paint? I mean, it makes sense, I just never thought about it. Derek has a new favorite activity. Poor Lucas, he was covered in hand prints by the time they were done playing.

We spent the 4th with all things red, white and blue!

I followed this tutorial for the cake.

This is after cleaning up from making the red velvet cake.

Star shaped jello jigglers and watermelon.

We have had our share of hots days…just what summer should be like! I bought a cool sprinkler that we have had lots of fun with.

Summer To-Do List

The boys and I came up with a fun to-do list for our summer. Although they didn’t really get it, I think they will have fun crossing things off the list. Sorry, this might be boring…but I want to make sure I have the list saved somewhere.

Here’s our list…

*go to Target (funny boys, this was on our to-do list that day, they still wanted to add it to the list)

*milk (Lucas wanted to add this, he’s used to hearing me make grocery lists)

*make big pancakes (we were making pancakes while making this list, Derek wanted this added)

*make hotel (Lucas was positive he wants to MAKE a hotel.)

*ride bikes in park

*stay in hotel

*ride bikes with Ty and Morgan

*go to sprinkler park

*pick strawberries

*make fort

*go see a play

*finger paint

*go to park

*watch fireworks

*go swimming

*go to library

*go to WI Dells

*go to zoo

*concert in the park

*ride train

SO not ready to let go.

Remember when I talked about Derek going to school? Well, apparently I had forgotten about it. UGH!!! I made reservations for a 2 night getaway for the week that he starts school. I told my mom tonight that rather than change the reservations, I just wasn’t going to send him to school. I was only half kidding. It seems silly to be so upset about 2.5 hours a day. But, it has already put a damper on things. I know that he is going to learn lots of new things….and I hope he enjoys it. BUT.

So, tomorrow I am going to be back with a To-Do list for the summer. I am going to make sure we make the most of the time we have before he goes to school.

Bug Party Cake & Cupcakes

I think the cakes and cupcakes were my favorite part of the party. The mini cupcakes were frosted and then topped with crushed Oreo cookies. The bees and caterpillars were made from fondant.

The cakes were made by a local bakery.

Bug Party Decorations

In case you missed my post on the bug party food, you can find it here.

Cookie bouquets doubled as decoration for the table, and favors for the guests. The cookies were made by Pam of Cookie Crazie. They were so cute, and yummy too! I started by cutting sod to fit in each pot. To make the bouquet, I simply tape a stick to the back of the bag (thanks for the tip Pam!).

I love the tags! I glued a pom pom for the spider body and used foam dots to set the “grass” in place.

My mom and I got a little carried away with the bunting. I wish I had a picture of it all hung. It was everywhere!

Here’s a sneak peak at the cupcakes. In the background you can see the Happy Birthday banner I made. I am hoping to add those to my shop soon. If you have an interest in one before then, let me know.

No, we weren’t part of the decoration. Here’s another picture of the bunting. Plus, it’s a decent picture of both of us (for once!).

Bug Party Food

It seems like just yesterday I was planning the airplane and monkey parties. I think I started planning the bug party just days after the monkey party. Of course, the tone of the party started with the invitations.
Because I have so many details I want to share, I am going to break the party up into several posts. Let’s start with the food. Silverware was wrapped around different bug fact cards. They were perfect!

In keeping with the bug theme, all food served was some sort of bug. Besides what is pictured below, we also served ’slugs’ or sweet pickles, and ‘wing’ or potato chips.

We made fruit and vegetable arrangements that doubled as part of the decorations on the tables.

A party isn’t complete with candy, right? Treats included bug graham crackers and various gummy bugs and worms.

What did I ever do without this precious little boy? Ok, maybe I slept a little more…and cleaned a little more….but who needs to sleep or wants to clean??

We celebrated the boys’ birthday together with a bug themed birthday party. Thank you so much to the friends and family that helped make the day very special! I will be posting pictures from the party just as soon as I catch up on orders and SLEEP!

Where does the time go? I can’t believe it’s been 3 years since I held my baby boy for the first time.

1. We are so ready for summer here! It was so nice to see the sun today, although it was still a little chilly. Definitely looking forward to the warmer weather we are supposed to get the rest of this week.

2. Derek wasn’t too sure about this part of the playground equipment. He was so scared the first few times he went up. But, he kept going back to it.

3. Here you and see how nervous he was.

4. So proud of himself, he had to give Daddy a high five!

5. Lucas is one funny little boy. He loves to see what kind of reaction he is going to get for doing things he thinks he shouldn’t be doing. He was running away from the playground. He turned around long enough to see if anyone was going to chase him.

6. Here is Lucas before he got bored and tried running away.

7. Of course Lucas has no fear. He is practically running Derek over trying to get to the top.

8.Always on a mission. ALWAYS!

9. I would be so happy if I could get him to look at the camera. Just once.

10. Even the big kids had fun at the park! Here are niece and sister.
